Patient Stories

Will and his mother/advocate, KC Singletary.

Hi, I’m Will Singletary and I have PKU. I’m a senior at Westlake High School in Austin, TX. I was born right after hurricane Katrina in 2005 in Opelousas, but my family moved to Austin in 2015. I am on diet and take Kuvan, and have had well controlled levels my whole life.

My parents have been active advocates for metabolic disease since I was born, but I’ve joined them in the last few years, developing my own voice to help our community.

I have traveled to multiple NPKUA conferences, Rare Disease Week in Washington, D.C., and to the United Kingdom for the European conference meeting this year!

I’m a competitive swimmer, water polo player, and accomplished violinist in the Westlake Symphony Orchestra, performing on-stage in the Nutcracker Spectacular production this year. I love to play my violin, ski, and challenge myself in all sorts of ways.

I have been accepted to Colorado School of Mines and will start this Fall, studying Mechanical Engineering.

PKU has given me so much opportunity, and made me who I am today, and I’m truly grateful! I appreciate the LMDC for connecting us in Louisiana, and supporting our community.
